Guests and Hosts Discuss Responsibilities to Wampums, Treaties, and Relationships
With speaker Ruth Koleszar-Green, Assistant Professor, School of Social Work
The relationships between the colonial governments and Indigenous Peoples has been and continues to be fraught with misunderstandings and problematic legislation. These mechanisms of colonial control have caused both political and personal struggle for both Hosts (Indigenous Nations and people) and Guests (those that have entered into relation since 1534). In moving forward, we need to look holistically at where we have been and
reimagine relationships based on peace, friendship, and mutual respect. This community conversation will examine these relationships.

The Scholars' Hub is a unique partnership with the Aurora Public Library that offers alumni, students and the community the opportunity to experience interesting and engaging lectures by some of York University’s top faculty and researchers. This program is part of York University’s goals of community engagement and reputation building in the GTA and York Region.

Space for this talk is limited. For more information and to register, please RSVP below.
