Three professors and six alumni are among a group of individuals with connections to York University appointed to the Order of Canada. Established in 1967 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Order of Canada recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation.
Allan Carswell's decades-long research and business career has evolved with tremendous resources and encouragement from York University, and now he is returning the favour with a $1 million gift that will fund graduate scholarships for the next generation of scientists and engineers.
“This year’s honorary degree recipients have made a remarkable impact in their communities through their work, social activism and volunteerism,” said Mamdouh Shoukri, York president and vice-chancellor. “Their leadership and vision has had far-reaching effects that have inspired important societal changes and positively touched countless lives.”
